The End of Barbarism

I think this article at Progression of Faith is at least one good answer to how Christianity can once again address society in a thoughtful and meaningful way and simultaneously divest itself of the one thing in Christian theology that does not resonate with reasoned and intelligent folk everywhere. If it is true at all, isn't it best to re-work the Gospel toward a higher vision for society, beginning with the doctrine of "atonement," and prevent religion from bringing society down to its lowest common denominator: violence? What do you think?

  1. Thanks for this Annie.
As someone for whom the notion of atonement through blood sacrifice, or the ultimate blood sacrifice, has always been a barrier between me and Christianity for various reasons, this fits my sense of religion as "the good", the expression of the best we can be, much better.

"But rebirth is not a private, inward event only. For it also includes the necessity
of dying to whatever in our social surroundings has shaped us inauthentically."

If we know in our hearts we should change, then we owe it to ourselves to at least try.

Today's a public holiday here in the UK. On holiday or not, have a good Monday.

    Blessings
